Great News!! Hour Reductions
2011 Convention |
CIRB has unanimously turned down CUPW's submission!
Hour Reductions to CPAA Offices The consultations on proposed hour reductions to 44 offices in BC & Yukon Branch are now complete. Of the 44 offices involved, 36 offices were affected and 57 employees had their hours reduced. Your Branch filed 52 grievances regarding these reductions; 36 of the 52 were because Canada Post did not comply with article 12.01 of our Collective Agreement and 16 grievances were filed because the Corporation did not follow article 12.05 of our agreement when making the cuts we opposed. The Corporation is required to complete all activities outlined in the Letter of Understanding (page 124) of our Collective Agreement, yet CPAA did not receive information that all (or any) of these activities were performed on all of the offices involved. CPC’s response to this was "they may have done them, but the letter does not say they are required to share the information with the Union". All 52 grievances have been denied and have now been referred to arbitration. Please remain diligent to request hours when needed and record when they are approved or denied. None of our members are to work through breaks or work beyond their scheduled shifts without pay!
B. C. & Yukon's 76th Annual Convention May 15, 2011 The 76th annual convention held in Prince George this year was a success! Attending from Ottawa was our National President Leslie Schous who gave a presentation on Future Horizons. "If the niche for regular letter mail is decreasing, we must develop new promising niches". Past President Sonja Lemay received a Lifetime Membership Award in recognition of her many years of dedication & service to CPAA. Carolyn, Leslie & Eva gave a great presentation and handout on the new Short Term Disability Plan. It's been decided that next year's Annual Convention will be held on Vancouver Island ….. (exact location, not yet determined), we'll keep you posted; for your sake, make plans to attend.
