  • #1. I am a part-time 21hrs/wk employee and I am now entitled to the CPC Extended Health Care Plan. When I retire:
    • 1. Can I continue to receive these benefits?
Yes, Article 34.05 states that you are eligible if entitled to a reduced or unreduced pension. You must have 15 years or more of continuous employment on the date of retirement and would be covered by the EHCP (Extended Health Care Plan) if you elect to receive these benefits within 60 calendar days of your retirement date or the date on which you start to receive a deferred pension. This is a one-time election.

    • 2. What other benefits am I entitled to?
You would also be entitled to the Dental Care Plan, the Basic Life Insurance Plan and the Canada Post Paid Death Benefits.

  • #2. I am a 20 hrs/week part-time assistant, in a Grade office and I will be out on sick leave for 2 weeks. Does the continuous term from this office automatically fill in this position?
The hours should be offered to a Part time employee within the office first. If there is no other Part time employee in this office, then it would be offered to an employee on a Relief list within a 50km radius. If there was no such situation then the hours would be offered to the term with the most continuous employment.

  • #3. I am a 20hr/wk part time employee and am thinking of taking a 2 month leave of absence. How would I do this and if I did would I still be covered by the Extended Health Care Plan?
You could apply through your LAM for "Seasonal Work option"- where you can take between 20 and 60 working days and your salary would be reduced by the corresponding amount of leave and averaged out over a one year period. This would allow the employee to receive a pay cheque while on leave, and there is no change in coverage or premium.

  • #4. Can CPC phone an employee at home to ask when they will be returning to work?
Yes, CPC can phone an employee at home as long as they do not get into the nature of the illness. It is not a violation of the Collective Agreement for the employer to ask: the type of absence (IOD, OFF Duty Injury, Certified or Casual Sick); if the employee is seeing a doctor or the date that the employee is expected to return to work.
